Michael and Carole Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge’s parents, are invited by the Queen to visit.
On the day that his engagement was announced, Prince William declared that he wanted to make sure that Kate Middleton's parents had the "chance to see what life is like" in the Royal family. The Queen is helping her grandson to stay true to his word.
Mandrake hears that Michael and Carole Middleton have been invited by the Queen to visit Balmoral later this year. It will be the first time that the parents of the Duchess of Cambridge, as she now is, have been to the Scottish retreat while the monarch is present.
"The Queen has got on well with the Middletons and is keen to help ensure that they feel welcome at royal events," says a courtier. "She would be pleased if they could join her at Balmoral for a weekend."
Last week, the couple were given the honour of arriving on Ladies' Day at Royal Ascot in the Queen's carriage procession. They travelled in one of only three landaus that followed the Queen's carriage after attending a luncheon at Windsor Castle with a gathering of the monarch's friends.
Last year, the Middletons stayed at Birkhall, the Prince of Wales's private residence on the Queen's Balmoral estate, as guests of William. However, the Queen was not in Scotland at the time.
